Regular mowing for Bradfordville yards
Bradfordville Lawn Care provides regular lawn mowing for homes across the Bradfordville area of northeast Tallahassee. Our focus is residential and smaller lots, the kind of yards you find in neighborhoods like Killearn Acres, Killearn Lakes, Bull Run and Landon Hills. Every visit includes mowing, edging along driveways, walkways and beds, string trimming around fences, trees and other hard-to-reach spots, and blowing clippings off hard surfaces so the yard looks finished when we leave.
Because we're a father-and-sons team working in the same part of town every week, you deal with the same people each visit. We get to know your yard: where the low spots stay wet after a summer storm, which beds you want edged sharp, and where the gate is.
The North Florida mowing season
Tallahassee lawns are warm-season grasses, so growth follows the weather. From late spring through summer, heat and afternoon rain push grass hard, and most lawns look best with weekly mowing. In the cooler shoulder months of early spring and fall, growth slows and many yards do fine on an every-other-week schedule. In winter, warm-season grasses go mostly dormant and turn tan, so mowing drops off and the work shifts toward leaves and general tidying.
We'll recommend weekly or biweekly service based on your grass, how much sun the yard gets, and how you like it to look, and we can adjust as the season changes.
Mowing height by grass type
Cutting at the right height is one of the simplest ways to keep a lawn healthy. Taller grass shades the soil, holds moisture better and crowds out weeds. A good rule is to never remove more than about a third of the blade at one time. Here's how we approach the grasses common in northeast Tallahassee:
- St. Augustine: kept on the tall side, generally around 3.5 to 4 inches. Scalping it short invites stress and weeds.
- Centipede: a low-maintenance grass that prefers a lower cut, around 1.5 to 2 inches.
- Zoysia: cut fairly low, typically 1 to 2.5 inches depending on the variety, with sharp blades for a clean cut.
- Bahia: cut around 3 to 4 inches. Bahia sends up tall seed heads in summer, so regular mowing keeps it looking neat.
