Shrub trimming that keeps plants healthy

Overgrown shrubs can swallow windows, crowd walkways and make a well-kept house look neglected. Bradfordville Lawn Care trims and shapes shrubs for homes throughout the Bradfordville area of northeast Tallahassee, from foundation plantings to hedges along a property line. We shape each plant so it keeps a natural form, thin out overgrowth to let in light and air, and clean up all the clippings when we're done.

Most of our customers have residential and smaller lots, where a few well-kept shrubs make a big difference in curb appeal. We can trim shrubs on a regular schedule or as a one-time refresh.

When to trim common North Florida shrubs

Timing matters, especially for shrubs that flower. Trim at the wrong time and you can cut off next year's blooms. Here's the general approach we follow:

  • Azaleas: trim soon after they finish blooming in spring. They set next year's flower buds over the summer, so late-season pruning cuts off those blooms.
  • Camellias: also best trimmed after they finish flowering.
  • Hollies, ligustrum, boxwood and other evergreen hedges: light shaping during the growing season keeps them tidy. Heavier cutbacks are usually done in late winter or early spring, before new growth starts.
  • Late fall: we avoid heavy pruning, because new tender growth can be damaged by a cold snap.

What a shrub trimming visit includes

We start by walking the beds with you, or following the notes on your request, so we know which plants you want kept low, which ones are screening a view, and anything you'd like left alone. Then we shape, thin and clean up. Clippings are raked out of beds and blown off hard surfaces. If your beds need a refresh too, we can pair trimming with bed cleanup and fresh pine straw or mulch as part of a seasonal cleanup.

Frequently asked questions

When is the best time to trim azaleas?

Right after they finish blooming in spring. Azaleas form next year's flower buds over the summer, so trimming late in the year removes those blooms.

Can you bring back badly overgrown shrubs?

Often, yes. Many overgrown shrubs can be brought back over one or more trims. We'll look at them during your free estimate and tell you what's realistic.

Do you haul away the clippings?

Yes. We clean up clippings from beds, lawns and hard surfaces after every trim.

Do you serve my neighborhood?
